12/30/2022 12:23:28 PM Effective January 1, 2023, Assembly Bill 1041 added a "designated person" to the list of individuals for whom an employee may take leave to care for under CFRA. A designated person means any individual related by blood or whose association with the employee is the equivalent of a family member. The employee may designate one person per calendar year and the designated person may be identified by the employee at the time the employee requests the leave. View Revision

2/18/2022 12:29:29 PM Effective January 1, 2022, this policy has been updated to comply with AB 1578, which clarifies that an employee can take leave under CFRA to care for a parent-in-law with a serious health condition. View Revision
1/8/2021 3:03:38 PM Effective January 1, 2021, Senate Bill 1383 expands the scope of CFRA to include: job-protected leave to care for a grandparent, grandchild, or sibling; provides 12 workweeks of unpaid job-protected leave for a qualifying exigency; requires an employer who employs both parents of a child to grant CFRA leave to each employee for bonding purposes; and eliminates an employer’s right to refuse a “key employee” their right to reinstatement under CFRA only.
