Synopsis

This policy

  • Specifies that the California Department of Human Resources takes a leadership role in the coordination of a statewide Employee Health & Wellness program;
  • Requires that each state department dedicate resources to coordinate their participation in the program.

Introduction

On April 4, 1995, the Governor signed Executive Order W-119-95, requiring that the Department of Human Resources take a leadership role in the development and implementation of a statewide Employee Health & Wellness program.  This included participation from a labor/management steering committee, comprised of representatives from state departments, labor organizations, and wellness advocacy groups.

The California Department of Human Resources, in conjunction with the steering committee, focused on assessing the current health promotion efforts of state departments, health carriers, health advocacy and other community organizations and developed a core wellness program which took advantage of and redirected existing resources and grants.

Statement

The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) takes leadership in the coordination of the statewide Employee Health & Wellness program. The Employee Health & Wellness program promotes health, fitness, and illness prevention through educational awareness campaigns and wellness initiatives.

Each state department is required to dedicate resources for their participation in the Employee Health & Wellness program or must arrange to cooperate with other departments in their agency or their geographic proximity for program coordination.
